Welwyn Anglo-French Twinning – Events
Lydis Candoni
Sadly, we report the death of M Lydis Candoni, aged 89, former Mayor of Champagne-sur-Oise. M Candoni, a former member of the Paris Fire Brigade, established the twinning of our two communities 40 years ago, together with the late Kit Trevena, then headmaster of St Mary's School, Welwyn.
A funeral mass for Lydis took place in the church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, Champagne-sur-Oise on February 20th, followed by an oration given by the current mayor, M Joël Berniot, from the steps of the Mairie. Representatives of the Twinning Association travelled from Welwyn to attend and to lay flowers on behalf of the Association and Welwyn Parish Council. Lydis was interred the following day alongside his second wife at Pionsat in the Auvergne region of France.
